| Enzyme | All Enzymes are Catalysts, but all Catalysts are not Enzymes. An enzyme is organic so it contains carbon. The enzyme in our Lab is peroxidase because all enzymes have the prefix- ase and liver is an organic material. Throughout the Lab the Peroxidase(Liver) was always bubbling vigorously. During the PH1 experiment there was no bubbling whatsoever. That surprised us because the peroxidase had always been rapidly getting rid of oxygen in the Hydrogen Peroxide. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Catalyst | Catalysts are inorganic substances that can speed up a reaction by 100 fold. The catalyst in our Lab is known as MNO2 or Magnese II Oxide. We concluded that it wasn't an enzyme because it didn't end with the prefix -ase and it did not look like an organic material. The MNO2 always fizzed and made bubbles, but not with the same intensity of the liver(Peroxidase). The liver bubbled more because it was always raw and hydrogen peroxide is used on cuts, but when the liver was heated it did not bubble at all. The MNO2 did still slightly react after itwas turned into a liquidy substance instead of a powder. Which goes to show that slow and steady is always dependable. | ||||||||||||||||||
